This story is best begun by mentioning that Dorothy is my beloved, sister-in-law. That important fact will help everyone reading to understand how I know all the details of this wedding day that I won't always know for all my brides.
Back in September, I was delighted to hear that Roy had proposed and Dorothy had said yes (of course she had!!!). I didn't expect it to be a lengthy engagement, but I wasn't exactly prepared for the news that they were setting their wedding date for a Friday in October, which happened to be only six weeks away!
Fast forward six weeks and the couple is decked out in their super spiffy, vintage inspired outfits with beautiful peacock accents. The reception room where they're standing has been dressed with antique, rustic details donated for their day by friends and family and the smell of soup is wafting through the air! Now, I know that soup isn't considered a "traditional" wedding dish, (hmmm.. unless you're Italian, right) but there wasn't much about this

wedding that was traditional. By breaking with traditions, a lot of couples find they can incorporate more of their personality into their day, make it flow more smoothly and save some cash on the way! This is exactly what Roy and Dorothy did and it made for a fun, quirky evening with lots of amazing details, fun memories, delicious food and decadent cupcakes and... oh! Did I mention the cupcakes!?!?! You'd think you'd eat less cake when you can simply grab a little cupcake to enjoy, but that isn't the case when there are so many different kinds of cupcakes! My favorite was the carrot cake!
So, what do we take with us from this special day? 1. Always share your cupcakes with a friend, so you can try more flavors while consuming less calories.. 2. Don't be shy asking friends and family to pitch in. 3. Ditch tradition when it interferes with what you REALLY want or what's best for you. 4. If possible, allow more than six weeks to plan for your big day. If you can't, hope you have some super creative, inspired friends and family to help out!
